Sandy and I want to extend our deepest sympathy. I want to thank
you so much for sharing Chris with us. I shall always treasure my
phone calls from Chris. The last one was a week ago and we were
looking forward to Chris coming to the clinic for a ride on the
golf cart. Chris has touched so many, young and old, he has made
us humble and grateful. A young man that connected all the dots.
May God Bless you all at this time and know in your hearts that
he is home with our Lord. Much Love,

My favorite memory of my buddy?
Well, I have so many.
He is my buddy and I loved him as if he were my baby brother. I remember
when I came back from my surgery, Mrs. Schindler asked if I could
fill in on Tuesday and if I could go visit with my buddy. I said yes.
I showed up and he was doing a puzzle with Jewel. I walked in real
quietly and just watched him. When he saw me his face just lit up
so bright and he screamed, "Buddy, Buddy, MY Buddy"

| Dear Debra & Joseph,
Though our heart and wishes are in the right place, we simply cannot
put into words those thoughts that we wish to convey, that we would
hope bring you some comfort and peace. Several years ago, my good
friend and his wife lost their little 11 year old Austin to cancer.
Their unabashed faith in God, love and the support from their family
and friends have consoled them through the years and have (I believe)
given them some peace. Their little boy and my son David were friends,
and I will never in my life forget Austin's smile and the love that
radiated from within him. Chris (I am sure) has had the same effect
on everyone he has ever met, and as told to me by Brenda, was the
kindest, sweetest little boy. He is with our master now and trully
at peace. May your hearts not turn inward from pain, but turn out
to those who love you and Chris... and may his life serve as a testament
to those who knew him or you, that glory is not transient, that
love is eternal, and the God is great and wise. Let your hearts
cry out not in pain... and may peace be with you soon... as it is
surely now with Chris. God Bless You and Chris!

"A
Note From Mom" - A Poem (click here to view in new window)
Deb, though I only talked with Chris a couple of times... when
he was reluctant to take those pictures at Debbie's house, because
it wasn't the cool thing to do (instead he went and listened to
Scotty play the guitar in the other room with the guys...) and
when I came over and took the pics of you three in September this
year... doesn't matter... he was so sweet, and did it for you,
even though I'm sure he didn't want to take pictures. :) He was
very into "pleasing" people, and had the sweetest demeanor
about him. Funny one I remember is when he danced with Debbie
at her birthday party 5 years ago. They were so cute dancing together.
That was a good memory. Amazing what we can learn from children,
isn't it? I pray that you can cherish all the times you did get
to spend with him... even the ones that only the two of you shared.
You are a blessing to so many. I admire and respect you for what
you have been through, and can only hope it is a source for those
in need of a strong faith and love of God.

As I have read all of the
notes and messages left over the last week since this site was set
up by a wonderful friend, I was aware of how lucky my family is to
have so much support, love, and compassion from each of you. Because
of that, I wanted to let you know how we are doing. Katherine, Chris's
13 year old sister, Kyle, his 20 year old brother and myself are all
doing well. We have talked about how we miss Chris. I miss holding
him, hugging him, whispering with him, and laughing together. We all
miss his stories and his smiles. But we also agree more than all of
that we are so happy for him. I know he is at last able to run and
play as long as he wants and his Mimi (my mom) was there to welcome
him and guide him. Our sense of peace and joy for Chris is strong
and Chris himself has helped each of us with that as well as life
in general since he left this world. During the vigil at the funeral
home last Sunday evening, there was so much love and support from
each of you in the room that I felt like I was floating on it. At
the funeral the next day I know Chris was giving us the strength we
needed to tell you about him and his special joy of life. Thank you
for your support - there was wonderful food at our house, encouraging
phone calls, compassionate e-mails, beautiful flowers, fun visits,
beautiful cards and sentiments, thoughtful invitations, wonderful
donations to UMDF, hugs and so much love we are grateful for. Bless
you all. Tomorrow I want to tell you a story about Chris that is so
fun. Debra Schindler 11.08.2004

Dear Deb,
I join my prayers to those in the army of friends who love you. As
I listened to descriptions of Chris at the vigil, I almost felt like
I had been warmed by his light. Since I did not have the privlege
of meeting him and I was unable to "sit" for Chris that
last week of his life, I was not able to give him an official bright
red clown nose. Don't be too surprised to see it arrive in the mail.
I'm sure Chris wouldn't mind if you or the kids put it on at one of
those many moments when you think of him and need an extra smile.
May God wrap you and your family in his warm embrace.
Much love, Joyce Greenfield 11.08.2004

Dear Deb,
The news about Christopher's passing was announced at our TPG meeting
last week and I was heartbroken to learn of his passing. The loss
of a child must be the most difficult thing anyone has to endure;
so, my heart and my prayers go out to you and all of your family.
It seems that you and your family were given a special gift in having
Chris for a bit longer after his illness last year and I am sure you
felt the extra blessing of his presence. May the memories of his life

I have so many funny remembrances of Chris
- he was so much fun to be with - we would laugh a lot when he was
with us. Once he and I were on the way to pick Kat up from school
and we were talking about something we had bought Kat for her birthday,
so then we talked about how important birthday surprises were, etc.
So Kat got in the car and Chris - in that very instance - told her
what we had for her birthday and almost simultaneously his eyes
got very big and he looked at both of us with total innocence and
said, "It just fell out of my mouth." Kat and
I laughed and laughed.
I have been listening to Chris's e-mails
and it is such a joy to be able to hear his voice. I am still getting
flowers and food delivered to the house as well as many cards daily.
Thank you so much for all the love and helping Kat, Kyle, and I
feel that our sadness is being shared and that we have so much in
each of you to be happy for.

Debra & Joe,
Our hearts and prayers go out to you and your family. Although we
never met Chris, I feel like we knew him as one of our family member.
Joann told us stories about Chris and kept us update on his progress
and now of his passing. We want to share a poem with you and hope
that it will bring some comfort:

Deb-
My familiy's hearts and prayers go out to you. In the few times I
got to spend with Chris I could tell he did not know the word defeat.
He was just the kid with the big bright smile.

| I wanted to say thank
you to each of you who have sent plants, brought food, been there
to comfort us with hugs, smiles and wonderful remembrances. The
reason I am writing this is twofold.
The first reason is I do not plan on sending
out individual thank yous, but I wanted you to know how moved Kat,
Kyle and I are by your thoughtfulness and generosity and love. It
is so comforting to know how many people Christopher moved.
The second reason is to help each of you
with your sadness about Chris. Joe and I had time and our own service
with Christopher before he was cremated last Thursday and it was
such a joy to see him, touch him, and talk to his physical presence
one more time. I wish we could give to you-this evolving sense of
peace and closure that we have. As Father Thu said at Chris's vigil,
he is a saint-he really didn't have time to do anything wrong and
he was always so happy to help, visit and have fun with others. So
if you need help with something I know Chris will always be right
there for all of us. He has helped us a lot already. We love you
all.

Dear Deb and Joe:
Although we never met Chris, we felt like we knew him. We just hope
that in our final years we have the courage and strength as he and
everyone in the Schindler family had. Joe & Jackie

| It has been a little
over one month since Christopher joined his new saint friends and
I miss him so much so often but most of the time I am happy for
him and for the first time in my life know that when it is my time
to die I believe I will actually be very excited about being with
him again. Katherine is very busy with friends and school as a normal
13 year old should be and she misses him also but remains happy
for him overall. Kyle, Christopher's soon to be 21 year old brother
misses Chris and knows he is happy in his new life. I continue to
be comforted by Christophers presence and love at times and one
of those times was last night-I just feel stronger and able to handle
the emotions so much easier because of the peace I receive from
him.
Anyway, I wanted to tell you a story about
Chris that is a favorite of many. It was time for the HLSR parade
last year and the new mayor needed a horse to ride. So the Houston
Chronicle reported that Christopher Schindler's horse, Docs J-Bird
2, would be squiring the new mayor in the parade. What they didn't
report was this. Joe and I were excited to show Chris the paper
that morning. So when he got up, we had his breakfast ready and
the paper open to that section and we told him about it. Then he
read it and looked at us and said, "Who told him he could ride
my horse." We laughed and thought well we really should have
consulted with him on this. Christopher always had an opinion and
it was always original, sometimes funny, but always caring and kind
to others. We love you, Boo.
